Fortinbras inherits the land of Denmark because before Hamlet dies, Hamlet gives it to him. This would originally contradict the theme of revenge and death, Fortinbras wanted the kingdom and was going to do anything in his power to get it. However there was one difference to his want compared to Hamlet's, Laertes', or even Polonius', he was open to it. He had no little evil schemes, he just had his army. This was one of Shakespeare's themes because everyone who was sneaky died, whereas Fortinbras was all into his goal and was not sneaky and didn't end up dying.
